There are so many articles out there, each one convincing readers that a certain season of the year is the best time to go on a safari in South Africa. While it is interesting to read about the highlights one can experience on a safari during that particular time, I have to disagree that there is one season that is better than the others for a safari experience.
South Africa is truly a great place to go on a safari at any time of the year. Each season showcases unique wildlife behaviour and sightings and there is never a dull moment!
Having said that, summer is an iconic time to experience a safari in South Africa. Wildlife migrations are in full swing during midsummer, roughly being the months between December and March.
If you're thinking about going on a safari any time soon, we recommend the Pilanesberg National Park in the North West Province of South Africa. The park has a rich array of southern African wildlife including the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, lion), giraffe, hippo, zebra, crocodiles and many bird species.
The 'Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex' is the park's primary geological feature and is the crater of a long extinct volcano - the largest volcanic complexes of its type in the world. Another notable attraction is the remnants of the people who existed here during the Iron and Stone Ages.
The park has proudly announced that there have been many incredible sightings of African elephants as of late. Additionally, they have seen a boom in various baby animals being born in the past 3 months. This is a great time for wildlife photographers to make the most out of this special season.
