Few other reserves offer as complete an outdoor experience as De Hoop – sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope, and the Potberg Mountains. Birders observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons, and ostrich. Activities are diverse and guests choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, or mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkeling in the many turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day.
Here you can enjoy self-catering or luxury accommodation in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. The De Hoop Collection accommodation has something for everyone, from families travelling on a limited budget, couples seeking a comfortable but affordable breakaway to a top-end fully inclusive luxury stay.
Accommodation includes self-catering cottages, luxury suites, and spacious houses or villas. The stunning coastline, Koppie Alleen, is situated approximately 13km from the accommodation. Those who are fit as fiddles might find a strenuous cycle suitable, alternatively, a drive in your vehicle will take you 25min.
The Fig Tree Restaurant is quite the place to be and therefore packed; in high season especially. The curio shop sells wood, firelighters, and meat but it really is a gift shop and not a food shop.
There are also several activities to enjoy at De Hoop including guided bird walks, an interpretive marine walk, guided mountain bike trails, a hike up the Potsberg Mountain to view the endangered Cape Vultures, as well as many 4x4 routes.
