The East African country of Kenya is known for its cultural tribes, amazing scenery, and once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experiences.

Kenya's Masai Mara is famous for the annual wildebeest migration while visitors here and to the country's other game reserves can also look forward to spectacular sights of lions, elephants, giraffes, and buffalos.

Kenya also has some amazing beach destinations and cultural experiences to offer travellers.

Getting to Kenya

When travelling to Kenya you are likely to arrive at one of two international airports, either Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi or Moi International Airport in Mombasa. Kenya Airways is the national airline but most other major airlines also run flights to the country. Nairobi's airport is also a hub for connecting flights to a variety of other destinations.

In Kenya itself, there are good road networks while smaller charter flights can also get you to some of the more exclusive safari destinations.

Passport, visa, and other entry requirements to Kenya

Kenya offers visa free travel to many countries in Africa for either a 30 day or 90 day stay. Most other countries are required to get a visa prior to travel which needs to be obtained at the embassy in your country prior to travel.

Unlike visas to some other countries, the Kenya application process is very simple and affordable. If one plans to be travelling to multiple countries in East Africa, you can also apply for a East African visa which allows travel between Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda and is valid for three months.

The best time to visit Kenya

Although Kenya has a tropical climate the altitude of the climate helps to keep temperatures moderate. Typically it is very hot and humid along the coastline while inland the temperatures are a bit cooler.

Kenya receives sunshine year round and so a safari experience here can be enjoyed at any time of year. June through to August are the coldest months while the rains come between April and June.

The annual wildebeest migration which attracts many a tourist to the region occurs between June and September and is without doubt one of the best times to visit Kenya.
