14 Day Kruger and Mozambique Diving Tour

Embark on a 14 Day wet and wild tour of Kruger National Park, the Trans Limpopo, and Mozambique where you will experience some incredible diving. Highlights of this tour include the Panoramic Route, God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Kruger National Park, Diving in Tofo or Barra, Diving in Zavora, and seeing the turtles of Bilene.

The tour starts on the Panoramic Route close to Kruger National Park. Stop at God’s Window and the world’s third-largest canyon, Blyde River Canyon, for some stunning views. A short drive then takes you to Kruger National Park for a wildlife experience. The Kruger National Park is home to 502 bird, 114 reptile, and 147 mammal species (including the Big 5 - elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino, and leopard). Next head for the border with Mozambique, enjoy the views along the way.

Arrive in Tofo Beach, or Barra Reef Beach, where you will enjoy diving for the next three days. You will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the best diving in the world here: Mantas, Whale Sharks, and Turtles are just a few of the special species in the area. During the months of June, July, August, and September, the Humpback Whales also frequent the bays along the Mozambique coast.

Finally, make your way to Zavora where you will also enjoy three days of diving. Leaving Zavora, travel south to Bilene and the inland lake of this small Mozambique town. Here you can enjoy a boat trip across the inland lake to the beaches of the Indian Ocean and take a walk along the beach where you might be lucky enough to observe the Hawksbill and Green Turtles which make the Bilene area their home.

Your trip will include your transport, the services of a driver/guide, select meals, and all accommodation. 12 dives are included in this tour.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Panoramic Route

Departing early make your way east towards the Kruger National Park. You will stop en route for breakfast (own cost), and then make your way to the Panoramic Route. Stop at God’s Window and the world’s 3rd largest canyon, Blyde River Canyon, for some stunning views. From here head to Timbavati Safari Lodge, where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Kruger National Park

A short drive takes you to the gate of the Kruger National Park for your wildlife experience. Once through the gates of the park be on the lookout for game en-route to camp, which is in the southern part of the park, and is one of the most popular camps to stay at.

The Kruger National Park is home to 502 bird, 114 reptile, and 147 mammal species (including the Big 5 – elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino, and leopard).

This afternoon you will head out on a 3.5 hour open vehicle sunset game drive with an experienced and highly knowledgeable Kruger Park guide. Dinner will be served on your return.

Day 3: South Africa – Mozambique (Jolly Roger)

This morning starts off with a short game drive, before leaving the park and heading for the border with Mozambique (if you wish, it may be possible to arrange for an optional early morning game drive in an open vehicle with one of the park’s guides (own cost and dependent upon availability).

After border procedures, the road takes you north through this awesome tropical country. There will be short breaks along the road for you to enjoy some of the views before you reach the small town of Inharrime and your overnight stop, Poussada Jolly Roger.

Day 4: Tofo Beach (OR Barra Reef Beach)

Have a late start this morning as you only have a short drive to get to Tofo. On the way stop in Inhambane to have a look around the craft markets and also to do some shopping. Tofo also has its own food and curio market, well worth a look around, and some great bars where you can enjoy those sundowners!

Days 5, 6, 7: Tofo (Diving) (OR Barra)

These are diving days, so after breakfast, make your way to the dive school and get ready for the day.

You will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the best diving in the world here: Mantas, Whale Sharks and Turtles are just a few of the special species in the area. During the months of June, July, August & September the Humpback Whales also frequent the bays along the Mozambique coast.

Dives: 2 per day (total 6)

Day 8: Zavora Beach

After breakfast, pack up and make your way to Zavora. On the way there you will pass through Inhambane to visit the local market and your guide will show you around the town before making your way to the beach. Arriving in Zavora you can settle in before lunch, and afterward your dives will be sorted out for the next 3 days. There will be enough time this afternoon for you to relax and go for a walk along the beach, do some shopping, and watch the locals bringing in the catch of the day.

Days 9, 10, 11: Zavora Beach (Diving)

These 3 days are for you to enjoy your diving in Zavora. The Dive School is on the beach so you can enjoy the view of the ocean from the school. The restaurant also overlooks the ocean.

Day 12, 13: Bilene

Leaving the beach behind travel south to Bilene and the inland lake of this small Mozambique town, arriving early afternoon. After settling in, you can relax on the beach or go for a walk along the 27km long lake. Dinner on Day 12 will be enjoyed at the on-site restaurant.

On Day 13 your guide will organize you a boat trip across the inland lake to the beaches of the Indian Ocean, after which your local guide will then take you for a walk along the beach to one of the spots where you might be lucky enough to observe the Hawksbill and Green Turtles which make the Bilene area their home.

Day 14: Mozambique – South Africa (Johannesburg)

Today bid a fond farewell to paradise and head back towards the border and into South Africa, arriving in Johannesburg in the late afternoon.
