14 Day South Africa Tour - Coast to Karoo

Spend 14 Days travelling South Africa's coastline from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. Highlights of this tour include the Garden Route, Addo Elephant National Park, Graaff-Reinet, Tsitsikamma National Park, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Oudtshoorn, and the Cango Caves, Cape Agulhas, Hermanus, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, and the Cape Peninsular.

During your 14 Day Coast to Karoo discovery of South Africa you will enjoy game drives in the magnificent Addo Elephant National Park, visit the fourth oldest town in South Africa, well-known for its magnificent old Cape Dutch architecture, embark on exceptional hiking trails and take in the superb coastal scenery at Tsitsikamma National Park, and enjoy an ocean safari in Plettenberg Bay. You'll also visit the beautiful Knysna heads, stop in at the Cango Caves, meet the biggest bird in the world at an ostrich farm, see the southern-most point of Africa at Cape Agulhas, go shark cage diving in Hermanus, and taste wine at the famous wine estates in Stellenbosch. Finally, you'll arrive at your final destination, Cape Town where you can explore this truly multicultural city and enjoy a Cape Peninsular tour. 

Your trip will include your transport, the services of a driver/guide, select meals, and all accommodation.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Port Elizabeth. Your guide will meet you at Port Elizabeth airport after your flight and take you to your place of accommodation in Port Elizabeth for the night.

Day 2: Addo Elephant Park. Leaving Port Elizabeth after breakfast make your way to the Addo Elephant Park, which is home to many of Africa’s big game. There is an optional night game drive this evening with the park’s qualified guides (own cost).

Day 3: Graaff-Reinet. After another game drive this morning leave the park and make your way north-west towards the town of Graaff-Reinet, in the heart of the Great Karoo. Graaff-Reinet is the fourth oldest town in South Africa, and is well-known for its magnificent old Cape Dutch architecture.

Day 4: Tsitsikamma National Park. Leaving Graaff-Reinet make your way south once again, towards the coast and Tsitsikamma National Park, one of South Africa’s best-kept secrets. Boasting exceptional hiking trails and superb coastal scenery, Tsitsikamma is a destination many people will return to.

Day 5: Tsitsikamma National Park. Today is a free day for you to explore some of the many hiking trails in the park. There is also an option to do a Canopy Tour in the Tsitsikamma Forest (own cost).

Day 6: Plettenberg Bay. Leaving the park after breakfast travel along the coast towards Plettenberg Bay. For those in need of an adrenalin boost, stop off on the way at the famous Bloukraans Bridge, home to the world’s highest bungee jump at 216m!

Day 7: Knysna. This morning starts off with an Ocean Safari in the Plettenberg Bay area. Continue along the coast to Knysna, in time for lunch at one of the most famous restaurants in the area (own cost). Knysna is the heart of the Garden Route, and your guide will take you for a short drive to the beautiful Knysna heads this afternoon.

Day 8: Outdshoorn. Leaving Knysna after breakfast continue further along the coast, passing through Wilderness and George, before turning inland towards Outdshoorn. Visit the Cango Caves for an hour or two, and also an ostrich farm where you will have the opportunity to ride an ostrich, the biggest bird in the world!

Day 9: Cape Agulhas. Today takes you back to the coast and to Cape Agulhas, the southern-most point of Africa, where you can spend the afternoon exploring the town.

Day 10: Hermanus. There is an option this morning to go shark cage diving and also possibly a Great White Shark watching excursion (both at own cost). Then make your way to Hermanus where you will spend the night.

Day 11: Stellenbosch. Leaving the coast once again today, head towards Stellenbosch, home to many famous wine estates, for some wine tasting. On clear days the magnificent mountain scenery in this area makes for a truly memorable day.

Day 12: Cape Town. Today takes you to your final destination, Cape Town. There will be time this afternoon for you to explore this truly multicultural city.

Day 13: Cape Town. Today your guide will take you on a Cape Peninsular tour. Start the day off with a visit to Table Mountain, followed by lunch in one of the restaurants in the harbour at Hout Bay. This afternoon make your way to Cape Point Nature Reserve. Cape Point is known for its spectacular views overlooking the ocean. If you take a walk to the lighthouse you can also, at times, see the swells where the two oceans (Indian Ocean & Atlantic Ocean) meet. Leaving Cape Point head to Simonstown, where you will stop off for a quick visit to the Cape Penguins, before making your way back to Cape Town.

Day 14: Cape Town. Today is a free day for you to enjoy the city. As tonight is the last night of the tour you will have dinner out at one of the many fantastic restaurants that Cape Town has to offer (own cost).

Day 15: End of Tour. The tour finishes this morning after breakfast. If you are flying out today, your guide will be happy to organise an airport transfer for you.
