De Zeekoe Guest House farm, Oudtshoorn

De Zeekoe is a beautiful Guest House farm in Oudtshoorn, South Africa, offering a variety of luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation cottages. Relax in beautiful surroundings in the Garden Route’s Klein Karoo.

The name De Zeekoe, is derived for the Dutch name for the farm, Zeekoegat, which literally means “hippo waterhole”. Over a century ago, these odd-looking, water-loving creatures used to frequent the riverbed that still runs through the farm to this very day.

The farm is situated only 7km outside Oudtshoorn, in the Garden Route’s Klein Karoo, surrounded by the famous Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. De Zeekoe’s unique charm and extraordinary activities attract guests of a different kind. People from all walks of life visit this stylish lucerne farm in search of a unique experience. Guests can choose between various accommodation types, ranging from stylish rooms at the main house to luxurious cottages with their own private pool.

The idyllic setting indeed has something to offer for everyone – from the daring adventure-seekers to those who just yearn for a quiet getaway. This hidden gem has spectacular views with 168 bird species and not the “big 5” but the “shy 5”.

De Zeekoe offers a unique opportunity to walk with Wild Meerkats (Five Shy meerkats) and to be part of the shy 5 experience!

De Zeekoe also has all the “ingredients” for a great restaurant: a beautiful setting with great views; skirted by an expanse of lawn and views of the Outeniqua mountains. At De Zeekoe the food philosophy is using fresh, local ingredients and preparing them simply delicious and deliciously simple. Fresh herbs are picked daily from the garden and used in most of the dishes served. The farm also prepares and produces their own olives and honey (when in season). They also make their own olive paste, bake bread and prepare their own sauces. The produce they can’t make or grow themselves, they source locally. Since the area is known for its ostriches, they try and do their best to introduce this very healthy and delicious meat to guests.
