What to Expect When Diving with Seals in Cape Town

If you're looking for the ultimate marine adventure in Cape Town, then you need to add diving with seals to your bucket list!

The Atlantic Ocean is home to the Cape fur seal, an extremely friendly and inquisitive mammal that is unique to South Africa and Namibia.

Diving with seals is an exciting adventure that requires nothing more than a short introductory training session and a willing spirit! There is no fitness level required and you decide how long you would like to spend with your furry, underwater friends.

What to expect from the diving with seals adventure

Once you've made a booking, all that's required is for you to meet your guide and skipper at Mojo's Restaurant in Hout Bay Harbour. Once there, you'll be provided with all the equipment you need and a quick training session will take place
after which you'll hop on a boat and sail a mere 5 minutes to Duiker Island.

On the way, you may spot the Southern Right Whale and some birdlife such as Oyster Catchers, Cape Cormorants, endangered Bank Cormorants and more. Once you're ready, just jump in and have fun swimming with inquisitive seals, adorable baby seals and you may even see Dusky dolphins who love to swim around people for several minutes at a time.

A Go Pro underwater video camera is available for rent or bring your own to capture this not-to-be-missed experience and share it with family and friends.

After you've finished, hot drinks and snacks can be enjoyed on the boat and you'll be transported back to Hout Bay Harbour where there are various restaurants as well as the famous Hout Bay Harbour Market for you to enjoy.

A safe and exhilarating adventure

Diving with seals is suitable for children aged 10 years and up, with children from as young as 6 being allowed to view from the boat, so bring your family for a day you'll never forget. The diving area around Duiker Island is a shallow 2 - 5 meters deep with the ground clearly visible. Due to the cool Atlantic Ocean, there are no sharks around so seals and humans swim peacefully together in the seal's natural habitat.

What is the cost of the trip?

Weather permitted, you can dive with seals any time of the year for only R495* per person all inclusive. Group discounts and corporate bookings are available. Please email info@toursafrica.co.za or make a booking today!
