Sand Dunes Trail in Gansbaai (Western Cape, South Africa)

Enjoy the ultimate biking experience on the dunes near Grootbos Nature Reserve

  • Experience the stunning Cape scenery with a guided bike trail adventure down the mountain, through the fynbos, and to the top of the sand dunes
  • After the proper briefing on how to ride down the dune, take your turn riding down the face. Although it seems impossible and dangerous to do, the ride is in fact very controlled and the sand will slow the bike down for an enjoyable and possibly easy experience
  • Your guide will be at the bottom of the dunes videoing your challenges so remember to smile!
  • After the dunes,enjoy a 4×4 trail down to the beach and then tackle the biggest dune of them all down onto the beach
  • Then ride for approximately 500m until reaching a low section of rocks where before making our way back up to the 4×4 trail
  • From there, head back up to De Kelders and stop at Coffee on the rocks (Wed – Sunday) for a drink before finishing our ride together

Weather: Weather permitting (not nice on cold rainy, windy days)
What to Wear: T-shirt, shorts, trainers with socks or rock shoes, swimming costume (optional)
Things to Bring: Swimming costume, sun block, riding pants and top (if you have), sun glasses

Experience Level: Beginner (NB: moderate fitness required and basic cycling skill with ability to pedal a bike for 2 hours)
Inclusions: Guide, entry fee into the Nature Reserve, bike helmet, gaiters (leg protection), water, video of the trip (Uploaded to YouTube)
Exclusions: Bike riding shoes, riding shorts, top, insurance, cleat pedals
*Closed shoes required
