Anyone visiting South Africa is always looking for something to do. Here is a summary of some of the key events taking place in South Africa during 2019.  

March 2019

Cape Town Cycle Tour – Cape Town - 10 March 2019

March is the month that many cyclists and cycle enthusiasts flock to Cape Town. The annual Cape Town Cycle Tour is the largest organised cycle race in the world. First taking place in 1978, the Cape Town Cycle Tour is on par with the Tour de France for many cyclists and today has over 35,000 participants. If you are not riding. the event is still worth attending to experience the roadside excitement and cheer the riders on.

Cape Town Jazz Festival – Cape Town - 29 to 30 March 2019

One of the biggest music festivals in the world, the Cape Town Jazz Festival is a must on the calendar for any jazz lover. The main event wows music lovers with some of the top artists in the world as well as a number of free and related events that anyone can attend to feel the vibe.

The Rand Show –  Johannesburg - 19 to 28 April 2019

Now in its 125th year the Rand Show is the biggest exhibition in Johannesburg. With something for everyone from 2 years old to 102 years old, the Rand Show is all about family lifestyle. If you are in Johannesburg at this time, the event will be hard to miss!

Cape Town Two Oceans Marathon -  20th April

Considered the most beautiful Marathon in the world, the Cape Town Two Oceans Marathon is an event any long distance runner has on their bucket list. With both a full 56km and half 21km run, this is an event that any avid runner should take part in to experience the scenery of the Cape Peninsula.

Colour Run – Benoni – Date to be confirmed

This is a fun run that anyone will love. Taking place in the heart of Benoni, Gauteng the colour run involves throwing powdered paint dust of every colour at your friends and family – be prepared to get messy and covered in paint dust!

Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival – Knysna - 30 May to 3 June 2019

Knysna is the place to be at the very end of May 2019. This hugely popular event is one that celebrates diversity and culture. This is a fun few days of music, costume parades and amazing entertainment and is something not to be missed.

Wacky Wine Weekend – Robertson, Western Cape – 7 to 9 June 2019

You have heard of a wine tour, well the Wacky Wine Weekend takes wine touring to a completely new level of fun and enjoyment. This perfect winter event brings over 40 wine farms and their produce together to celebrate and explore wine in a new way. Make a weekend of it and stay over in one of many guesthouses and B&Bs or camp out and soak up the fun while enjoying amazing wine.

Comrades Marathon – Durban – 9 June 2019

The 87km long Comrades Marathon is considered one of the most gruelling road races in the world. People train for years in order to complete in this monumental race and it is one of the true sporting highlights for the whole of South Africa.

National Arts Festival – Grahamstown – 27 June to 7 July 2019

For 44 years the Grahamstown Arts Festival has been the melting pot of all the talent in the art world in South Africa. This is one of the best fringe festivals in the world with many extraordinary performances you really do not want to miss.

Vodacom Durban July – Durban – 6 July

Considered one of the most prestigious horse racing events on the world calendar, the Vodacom Durban July is a day at the races that anyone visiting Durban at this time really must consider. Greyville Racecourse will be your host and this is your chance to mingle with the rich and famous.

August 2019

Oppikoppi – Northam, Limpopo - Date to be confirmed

This diverse music festival is one of the music highlights on the South African music scene. With all genres of music represented along with some of the top comedians, SA has to offer, this open-air event is something you will never forget and will want to return for year after year to enjoy.

September 2019

Strawberry Festival – George – 21 to 22 September

For any family visiting the Garden Route in late September, the Strawberry Festival has something for the whole family. With a host of related events, activities and entertainment, strawberry picking is at the centre of this fun family weekend.

Cape Town Fringe Festival – Cape Town – date to be confirmed

Hot on the heels of the Grahamstown festival the Cape Town Fringe Festival opens up a kaleidoscope of entertainment performances and art events throughout the Mother City. For anyone with an interest in the arts, this is one of the best art events anywhere in the world.

October 2019

Rocking the Daisies – Darling, Western Cape – 4 to 6 October

One the largest and some say “the best” music festivals in South Africa, Rocking the Daisies is an event filled with local and international artists set among the flowers of some of the most amazing scenery in the world. If you love nature and music - this is for you.

Cape Town International Film Festival – date to be confirmed – Cape Town

Every big city has a film festival and Cape Town is no exception. Covering every genre of film at this world-class event you can watch the widest variety of movies in both public and private screenings anywhere in South Africa. With workshops and related events, this is a must for any movie buff or film and filmmaking enthusiast.

November 2019

Flicksburg Cherry Festival – Flicksburg, Free State – date to be confirmed

The Garden Route had its Strawberry Festival and the Free State has the cherry festival. This is the oldest agricultural and crop event in South Africa and is an event for the whole family. Set in a lesser-visited part of South Africa, the Free State, this event is your chance to get deeper into our amazing and richly diverse nation.
