7 Day Garden Route Tour - Nature & Adventure (Cape Town to Port Elizabeth)

Join us for an action-packed week on the Garden Route, starting from Cape Town and going east towards Port Elizabeth. On this self-managed tour you will get to experience the very best of the Garden Route and Tsitsikamma regions, widely known as one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world. The package takes you to see the world largest land animal in its natural habitat (African Elephant), hike in an indigenous forest, explore the impressive Cango Caves, blow your hair back on a speedboat and discover the amazing origins of mankind. This is a fantastic combination for an unforgettable experience.

Monday - Day 1

You will take a +/- 5 hour drive to the historic town of Mossel Bay, a significant part of South African history and also believed to be the home of early humankind. 

Human Origin - 7 Day Garden Route Adventure & Heritage Tour

Upon your arrival at about 3PM, you will be booked in at your accommodation. You can spend the rest of the afternoon and evening at leisure in this historic town with many interesting sites within walking distance. There is a lovely restaurant on-site for dinner.

Tuesday - Day 2

Today we will learn more about our human ancestry and how humans lived thousands of years ago. After a relaxed breakfast, you will take a shuttle at 09h30 to Pinnacle Point where the Point of Human Origin Tour (included) starts. The tour will take you on a journey into pre-history where you learn about human nature and behaviour, ancient environments, sea levels, food sources, cave formation processes, stone tool technology, and how our earliest ancestors managed to survive a near extinction event through their connection with and reliance on nature. This tour is usually about 1.5 hours in duration. The only access to Cave 13B is via a series of steep wooden stairways and boardwalks (some 200 stairs in each direction). The climb back up can be taxing unless you’re mildly fit. 

Human Origin - 7 Day Garden Route Adventure & Heritage Tour

After lunch you have the choice of going on a 45-min speedboat excursion (optional) which will have you screaming out of sheer exhilaration at speeds well over 100 kilometres per hour. This boat is completely nuts but a different way to experience and take in the beauty of the Mossel Bay coastline.

WednesDAY - DAY 3

Time for Cango Caves! Grab an early breakfast before taking a shuttle to Oudtshoorn, home of the world-famous Cango Caves. You will do a basic tour of the caves (approx. 1 hour). Please note, entrance must be paid at the caves. All tours are lead by experienced, knowledgeable and accredited Caves Guides. All tours are offered in English but Afrikaans, German, French and other language guide may be available (please check guide availability when  making reservations). 

Cango Caves - 7 Day Garden Route Adventure Tour

Once back in Mossel Bay you have the choice of the following optional activities (all weather permitting):
  • Sandboarding @ R500 per person incl shuttle (cash payment only)
  • Skydiving @ R3000 per person, please arrange for shuttle at own cost
  • White Shark Cage Diving @ R1750 pp

Thursday - Day 4

After an early breakfast will be transported by shuttle to Botlierskop Game reserve for a morning Game Drive. Enjoy close encounters with Rhinoceros, Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Giraffe, the rare Black Impala, Golden Wildebeest, Mountain Zebra, Hippos and more! The Game Reserve is 4200 hectares and comprises of over 26 different species of animals and over 200 resident bird species.

7 Day Garden Route Tour Game Drive

On return from the game drive lunch can be had at the reserves Day Centre (at own cost). Remember to check out before you leave for the game drive, there is a dedicated secure luggage storage at reception. After lunch you will return back to your hostel, to complete the check out, grab your luggage and board the bus (pick up between 15h30 – 15h50) to Nature’s Valley. Upon arrival you will have time to check in, freshen up in time for dinner.

Friday - Day 5

Today you have the choice just to chill at the awesome location and spend the day at leisure OR to go on a free full-day hike OR visit Monkeyland and Birds of Eden sanctuaries. 

Monkeyland Birds of Eden - 7 Day Garden Route Tour

For those who want to hike, please be ready by 09h15 at reception for the free shuttle taking you to the starting point of your hike. Be sure to stock up on water and snacks, and wear proper closed shoes suitable for the hike. The hike we recommend is Salt River Mouth and Paradise Beach. You will hike along the beach at Nature's Valley and across rocky cliffs to where the Salt River meets the Indian Ocean.

Salt River Mouth - 7 Day Garden Route Tour

Sightings of whales are almost guaranteed from the cliff tops in the winter months and shy Fish eagles are often spotted hunting here. A truly beautiful spot to stop and unwind for a while. The shuttle will collect you at 16h30 to take back to your accommodation base. Should you choose to do the Birds of Eden and Monkeyland excursion, you can also take the shuttle to the sanctuaries, and will then be collected at about 14h30 and be taken back to your accommodation. Relax for the rest of the day. Dinner starts at 19h30.

Saturday - Day 6

After breakfast, you have the choice to either have the day at leisure and explore the surrounding area by yourself, or join us on a very exciting and memorable (optional) activity. Optional Activity: Africanyon. After some basic training and getting into your activity gear (included in activity price) you will take a short drive and hike to the starting point. From here you navigate through the river shallows, jump, zip-line, swim through fresh water mountain pools, slide down natural water slides and abseil in and around waterfalls as you dip down into the river gorge. The expert guides are fantastic! Definitely worth every  cent. 

Africanyon - 7 Day Garden Route Tour

Remember to check out before you leave (if you go on the activity), there is a dedicated secure luggage storage at reception. On return from the morning’s activities you will complete your check out with the hostel, grab your bags,  freshen up and board the bus to Port Elizabeth.

Sunday - Day 7

Today you will be going on a full day Addo Elephant Park Day Tour and Safari. You will be picked up at about 9AM at your accommodation and will return at about 6PM in the evening. Addo Elephant National Park is home to the 'Big 5' (African Lion, African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard) and one of the densest Elephant populations in the world.

Addo Elephant Park - 7 Day Garden Route Tour

Addo offers unrivalled biodiversity and a magnificent game viewing experience in a Malaria free environment. 
Interesting facts: The original elephant section of the park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area. Today this finely-tuned ecosystem is home to one of the densest elephant populations on earth, with over 600 elephant, lion, buffalo, the endangered black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard, a variety of antelope and zebra species, as well as the unique Addo flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo. 

This tour is conducted in a closed minibus. You will be dropped at your accommodation after the day excursion, which brings the tour to an end.
